El Matador was a beloved Ogden landmark and one of Utah's very first Mexican restaurants, founded in 1963 by Armenian immigrant Tony Hasratian in a building styled like a Spanish mission. A multi-generational family institution for nearly 60 years, it was renowned for its generous portions and consistent flavors until closing in September 2022 after the family faced health challenges, leaving an enduring legacy in Utah's culinary history.
