John's Roast Pork has been a South Philadelphia institution since 1930, founded by Italian immigrant Domenico Bucci as a modest lunch counter serving dockworkers and railroad employees using Old World slow-roasted pork recipes. The James Beard Foundation named it an America's Classic in 2006, and after the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2002 cheesesteak ranking thrust it into the national spotlight, it has been praised by Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern, and publications including GQ and Bon Appétit.
