Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell, who opened the first location on July 6, 1962, at 7112 Firestone Boulevard in Downey, California, serving tacos for 19 cents each. Bell began franchising in 1964, and the chain was acquired by PepsiCo in 1978 for approximately $125 million; today it operates more than 7,000 locations worldwide.
