The Pit Authentic Barbecue opened in November 2007 in a 1930s former meatpacking warehouse in downtown Raleigh's Warehouse District, co-founded by developer Greg Hatem and pitmaster Ed Mitchell. The restaurant carries on the centuries-old Eastern North Carolina tradition of whole-hog barbecue, slow-cooked for 12 hours over wood and charcoal, and is listed in the Michelin Guide.
