Founded by Dave Thomas on November 15, 1969, in Columbus, Ohio, Wendy's was named after Thomas's daughter Melinda Lou, nicknamed Wendy. The chain pioneered fresh, never-frozen beef patties and introduced the first national fast-food salad bar in 1979. Thomas appeared in more than 800 television commercials, and the chain has grown to over 7,000 locations worldwide.
