Whataburger

Founded by Harmon Dobson and Paul Burton on August 8, 1950, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Whataburger was built around a burger so large it required two hands to hold. Dobson, who died in a 1967 plane crash, designed the iconic orange-and-white striped A-frame buildings. The Texas Legislature declared Whataburger a Texas Treasure in 2001, and the chain remained family-owned by the Dobsons until 2019.
