Margie's Candies is a Chicago institution founded in 1921 by Greek immigrant Peter George Poulos, renamed by his son George in 1933 in honor of his wife Margie, who ran the shop from the 1940s until 1995. Operating for over a century from its original Bucktown location on Western Avenue — with its unchanged Tiffany lamps, marble soda fountain, and miniature jukeboxes — the shop is famous for its homemade ice cream, Atomic Sundaes, and a 1965 visit from The Beatles.
