Mary Mac's Tea Room
Mary Mac's Tea Room, founded in 1945 by Mary MacKenzie in Atlanta's Midtown neighborhood, is the last surviving tearoom from a once-thriving era of Southern dining and was officially designated "Atlanta's Dining Room" by the Georgia House of Representatives in 2011. The 13,000-square-foot institution serves classic Southern comfort food — including hand-snapped green beans, house-baked desserts, and signature Georgia peach cobbler — across six dining rooms that have hosted presidents, governors, and the Dalai Lama. In 1962, Mary Mac's became one of Atlanta's first integrated restaurants, cementing its place in the city's civil rights history.
