Willie Mae's Scotch House was founded in 1957 in New Orleans by Willie Mae Seaton, who began the enterprise as a bar and beauty salon in the Tremé neighborhood before converting it into a restaurant. In 2005, the James Beard Foundation honored it as America's Classic Restaurant for the Southern Region, and the restaurant is widely recognized for what many critics consider the country's best fried chicken. Seaton's great-granddaughter Kerry Seaton Stewart continues the family legacy after Willie Mae Seaton passed away in 2015 at age 99.
